Dear Sammi and Ronnie,

Due to my ridiculous obsession with everyone's guiltiest pleasure, Jersey Shore, I thought I would write a letter to Sammi & Ronnie.  Hopefully this letter works out better than the last one.

Dear Sammi and Ronnie,

I, along with millions of viewers around the world, are glued to MTV every Thursday night at 10pm (i.e. t-shirt time).  We all tune in to see what kooky drunken mess Snooki is going to get herself into or who is DTF or even just to hear the grenade whistle.   Apparently, in the midst of all this free spirited debauchery, the two of you have decided to become Mr & Mrs. Buzzkillington.

The two of you have cried, kicked and screamed.  You break up to make up.

Last week, Sammi, the world watched stunned as you jabbed Ronnie clean in the chin (excellent contact BTW).  Over the course of the next few minutes, the house rallied around you to stay as you incoherently, through sobbing tears, explained how you had to leave now because it was a sign from God.......

................ Just let all that sink in for a minute.

O.K.

Since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, I figured what better time to give you and any of my reader's some advice that I always carry with me when it comes to relationships.

Maya Angelou wrote: "When someone shows you who they are, believe them."  Right now, your looking at each other, but your not believing.

Sammi and Ronnie are the couple that everyone is watching, but if you go through any social network you will see plenty of other couples going through the exact same situation.

People, including me, get so caught up in trying to make that special someone perfect.  We get into relationships with the highest of hopes and the best intentions.  As time passes, and we get to know that person better, all these flaws start coming out.  Now, the logical person would say it's time to move on, but when it comes to "love" logic seems inconsequential.  Instead of cutting our losses, we try to change that person.  We try to make them better for ourselves.

The cheaters are forgiven.  The liars are redeemed.  The ignorance is ignored.

Their are all kinds of reasons why we stick around.  Some of us are scared of being alone.  Some of us become dependent.  Some of us just think we can't do any better.

Their a probably thousands of couples who think they can't live on without their beau, these couples, for all intensive purposes, are addicted to each other.

Now, don't get me wrong, relationships aren’t as cut and dry as I'm making them out to be and every relationship is different. But if it seems like your watching yourself when you see Sammi and Ronnie's drunken arguments, it might be a sign your relationship has run its course, at least for now.

Being in love with someone does not necessarily mean you should be together, sometimes it just means you need to love that person from afar.

And if all else fails just remember you can still GTL when single.

Gotta Start Somewhere

Its been way too long since I've sat down and written something--anything!

Somewhere between graduation day and attempting to be an "adult," passions fell to the waist side in favor of the mundane 9 to 5 world.  It's almost been a year and a half since I made that jump from carefree collegiate to semi-responsible businessman and I probably feel just as lost then as I do now.

I traded late night essays for late night finance spreadsheets, the dreaded Monday morning classes for the unbearable Monday morning meetings, the weekend binge drinking for.... well some things stay exactly the same.

I happily moved to the next phase of my life after graduation and, for the most part, the life I have created for myself parrallels that of my younger years.  The only difference is that as I sit in my apartment at 2am listening to John Mayer (just like in college), one "thing" is missing-- that passion.

What made college so great was the underlying sense of limitless possibilty.  Your young and crazy.  You can leap tall buildings in a single bound.  Their is no task too large or mountain too high.  You are invinceable, walking around campus with an S on your chest because you know beyond the shadow of a doubt that your going to be somebody some day. You WILL have an impact on this planet.  The only problem is that once you crossover to the "real world" of shirts and ties, that Superman becomes Clark Kent.

No more cape. No more tights.  Just plain old Clark.

In the headiness of semi-adulthood, a lot of us lose our passions, our proverbiable "cape"-- I know I did..... until tonight when I started this blog.

So, I guess what Im trying to say is, dust off YOUR cape.  It's probably a lot easier than you think, you just gotta start somewhere....
